2012 — VA Stingrays 99

World Series Opening Ceremonies - 2012

The VA Stingrays forgot their bats for our first World Series game. The first inning was a clear indication of how the game was going to end up. They lost 8-1.

The VA Stingrays started game two the same way they finished game 1. After two innings they were down 1-0, but a base clearing triple and an infield grounder brought them up 5-1. They continued to battle and won 9-4.

In Game 3, the VA Stingrays were on fire. After a long lightning delay they were able to beat Delaware 15-3. With a walk, 2 singles and a double they went up 3 runs in the first inning. They gave up 1 in the bottom of the inning but the wheels fell off for the Fillies and like lightning the Stingrays were up 8-1. The Fillies pushed two across in the 5th inning to get close. The Stingrays decided that they were close enough and scored 6 more runs to put the game out of reach. Won 15-3.

The Stingrays opened up elimination against Pennsylvania. Grace took the mound and shut out the X-treme the first three innings. The VA Stingray defense showed up and only allowed the X-treme to push 3 across. With great at bats in the game, the VA Stingrays pushed two more across in the 3rd and 4th innings. Game over Stingrays win their first elimination game of the World Series 9-3.

In game 4, the Stingrays got behind early but never stopped fighting. The other team from Virginia had some lucky breaks and timely hitting to keep the Stingrays from taking the game back. The team played hard the whole game.Lost 4-9.

In their final world series game, the VA Stingrays faced a tough Central Jersey team. The Jersey team started with some small ball and then went to long ball. The VA Stingrays never stopped battling but in the end the New Jersey team was too strong.

The first World Series for the Stingrays was a great experience and a 3-3 finish made it a very successful year.

Tryouts 2011

In August of 2011, the VA Stingrays had their first tryout. We had 38 girls tryout for the team that first year. Due to our amazing interest we decided to create a 2nd 12u team. This team is now the Stingrays 14u coached by Bruce Brasher.

The VA Stingrays registered as a "C" team with USSSA and immediately realized after their first tournament that they needed to move to "B". The VA Stingrays qualified for the World Series by their second tournament with a 2nd Place finish. So it was off to Salisbury, MD for the USSSA 12u "B" World Series.
